Richmond Apartment Moving Guide

July 25, 20265 min readBy MS Moving
Steveston Harbour in Richmond, British Columbia

Richmond is flat and easy to drive, which makes the physical part of a move simpler than on the North Shore or in hilly Burnaby. But apartments and townhouse complexes here have their own quirks — mostly around access and parking. Here's what to plan for.

City Centre high-rises

Around Brighouse and City Centre, apartment towers work much like downtown condos: you'll need to book the service elevator and a move-in window through the building. Reserve early, especially for month-end, and share the window with your movers so the load-out is planned around it.

Townhouse complexes and guest parking

Much of Richmond's housing is townhouse complexes, and these come with a specific challenge: parking and the walk from the truck to your door.

  • Many complexes limit where a moving truck can park and for how long
  • Guest parking may be a distance from your unit, lengthening the carry
  • Some complexes require you to notify strata before a move
  • Narrow internal roads can make truck access tight

Timing the bridges and tunnel

Getting to Richmond means crossing the George Massey Tunnel or a bridge, both of which can back up at peak times. If your move involves travelling to or from Richmond, planning the trip outside rush hour helps keep travel time down.

A Richmond move checklist

  1. 1Confirm elevator booking (apartments) or strata notice (townhouses)
  2. 2Identify truck parking and measure the carry distance
  3. 3Declutter and pack room by room with clear labels
  4. 4Plan the drive to avoid tunnel and bridge congestion
  5. 5Set aside valuables and an essentials box to keep with you
